1. Have the courage to get great at saying “No Thanks” to any activities that don’t advance your priorities.

2. Take 60 seconds every morning to do a written game plan for a productive day. “The things that get scheduled are the things that get done.”, from The Greatness Guide.

3. Take a few seconds each day to turn off all your technology and work deeply on a key project with zero distraction.

4. Take 60 seconds to breathe deeply and focus on your progress. This will re-energize and refuel you.

17 Tips to Double Your Productivity In 14 Days

 

I’m in Trinidad and Tobago, finishing up an intense but fulfilling tour through Latin America. Yesterday I spoke to the leaders of the government of this resource and culture-rich nation. As well as to 350 schoolkids on Leading Without a Title (here’s a link to a newspaper review of the event with the kids). I realized how much I love teaching kids about leadership.

Anyway, I’m also putting the finishing touches on the curriculum for the upcoming Remarkable Entrepreneur™ SuperConference June 10-12 which is all about helping small business owners double their profits while having more fun (there’s only a few seats left, register here: http://www.theremarkableentrepreneur.com). Entrepreneurs from over 26 countries have already registered. I haven’t been this excited about an event in years.

One of the modules is on “Doubling Your Productivity in 30 Days”, based on my work with some of the most successful entrepreneurs in business.

I wanted to share 17 of the tactics I’ve learned that I know will help you lean into your productive best in this age of dramatic distraction:

17 Tips To Double Your Productivity In 14 Days

1. Turn off all technology for 60 minutes a day and focus on doing your most important work.

2. Work in 90 minute cycles (tons of science is now confirming that this is the optimal work to rest ratio).

3. Start your day with at least 30 minutes of exercise.

4. Don’t check your email first thing in the morning.

5. Turn all your electronic notifications off.

6. Take one day a week as a complete recovery day, to refuel and regenerate (that means no email, no phone calls and zero work). You need full recovery one day a week otherwise you’ll start depleting your capabilities.

7. The data says workers are interrupted every 11 minutes. Distractions destroy productivity. Learn to protect your time and say no to interruptions.

8. Schedule every day of your week every Sunday morning. A plan relieves you of the torment of choice (said novelist Saul Bellow). It restores focus and provides energy.

9. Work in blocks of time. Creative geniuses all had 2 things in common: when they worked they were fully engaged and when they worked, they worked with this deep concentration for long periods of time. Rare in this world of entrepreneurs who can’t sit still.

10. Drink a liter of water early every morning. We wake up dehydrated. The most precious asset of an entrepreneur isn’t time – it’s energy. Water restores it.

11. Don’t answer your phone every time it rings.

12. Invest in your professional development so you bring more value to the hours you work.

13. Avoid gossip and time vampires.

14. Touch paper just once.

15. Keep a “Stop Doing List”.

16. Get up at 5 am.

17. Have meetings standing up.

Most of us do have sympathy towards children and trying to help kids by giving one rupee. ద్రావిడ భాషలో ‘తిరు’ అనగా పవిత్రమైన, ‘పావై’ అనగా ‘వ్రతము / ప్రబంధం’ అని అర్థం. శ్రీ మహావిష్ణువుకు ప్రీతిపాత్రమైన ధనుర్మాసంలో విష్ణునామ సంకీర్తననే ‘నోము’గా నెంచి, రోజుకొక్క ‘పాశురము’ (కీర్తన) చొప్పున నెలరోజులలో ముప్పది పాశురాలతో సేవించిన సాక్షాత్ భూదేవి అవతారమూర్తియైన ‘ఆండాళ్’ (గోదాదేవి) రచించిన దివ్య ప్రబంధమే ‘తిరుప్పావై’.

'ధనుర్మాసం’ అంటే దివ్యప్రార్థనకు అనువైన మాసం అని అర్థం. 'ధనుః’ అనగా దేనికొరకు ప్రార్థించెదమో అనే అర్థం దృష్ట్యా ధనుర్మాసం అత్యంత పునీతమైనది. ‘మార్గశీర్షం’ అంటే శ్రేష్ఠమైన ఉపాయం. అంటే నిష్కామకర్మ, ఆత్మజ్ఞానం, భగవద్భక్తి - ఈ త్రివిధ సోపానాలతో దైవాన్ని చేరుటకు సరైన ఉపాయం మార్గశీర్ష వ్రతం. దీనినే ‘శ్రీవ్రతం’ అనీ, ‘సిరినోము’ అనీ కూడా అంటారు.
‘‘వేదాల ఉపనిషత్తుల సారభూతమే తిరుప్పావై’’ అని మన పూర్వాచార్యులు ప్రస్తుతించియున్నారు. ఉపనిషత్తులే ‘గోదాదేవి’ నోట సర్వసులభ రీతిలో వెలువడినవనీ, ‘తిరుప్పావై’ మహావిష్ణువు పాదపద్మాలను అందుకోటానికి మార్గదర్శకములనీ చెప్పబడినవి.
‘తిరుప్పావై’గా వినుతికెక్కిన ముఫ్పైపాశురాలను మూడు దశలుగా వర్గీకరించవచ్చును. అభిముఖ్యదశ, ఆశ్రయణదశ, అనుభవదశ. అభిముఖ్యదశగా చెప్పబడే మొదటి అయిదు పాశురాలలో వ్రతపూర్వరంగం, వ్రతాంగాలు, వరుణాహ్వానం, కర్మసిద్ధాంత ప్రసక్తి, నామసంక్తీరన వున్నవి. ‘ఆశ్రయణదశ’గా పేర్కొనదగిన ఆరవపాశురం నుంచి పదిహేనవ పాశురం వరకు గోపికలను మేల్కొల్పి వ్రతాచరణకు ఆహ్వానించటం. వ్రతాచరణగావించటం. ఇక ‘అనుభవదశ’గా చెప్పబడే పదహారవ పాశురం నుండి ముప్ఫైఐదవ పాశురంవరకు యశోదను, బలరాముని సన్నద్ధం చేసి నీలాదేవి రూపంలో శ్రీకృష్ణుని స్తుతించి, మంగళాశాసనం చేసి వేడుకొని జన్మజన్మల పర్యంతం కృష్ణసేవలోనే తరింపచేయుమని, శరణాగతి చేయటం కానవస్తుంది.

‘గోదాదేవి’ నామసార్థకతలోనూ పరమార్థమున్నది. ‘కోదై’ అనగా ‘పూలదండ’ అని అర్థం. గోదాదేవిని పెంచిన విష్ణుచిత్తుడు మాలాకారుడు కనుక. మాలాకారుని తనయగా ‘కోదై’గా పిలువబడి. ‘కోదై’ క్రమంగా ‘గోదా’గా పరిణితి చెందింది. ‘గాఃదదాతతిగోదా’ (చక్కని దాక్కులనిచ్చునది ‘గోదా’) అనే అర్థం దృష్ట్యా సుమధుర భక్తిరస పాశురాలను ప్రవచించింది కనుక ‘గోదా’గా సార్థకనామ ధేయురాలైనది గోదాదేవి. తనతండ్రి వటపత్ర శాయికి సమర్పించే పూలదండలను తొలుత తాను ధరించి అద్దంలో చూచుకొని మురిసిపోయి మరలా వానిని యథాప్రకారం ‘పూలసజ్జ’లో వుంచెడిది. ఈ మూలలనే విష్ణుచిత్తుడు స్వామికి అర్పించేవాడు. ఆమె ధరించి, ఇచ్చిన మాలలే స్వామికి ప్రీతిపాత్రములయ్యేవి. ‘ఆముక్త’ అనగా అలంకరించుకొని తీయబడిన అ, ‘మాల్య’ అనగా పూలదండను ‘ద’ అనగా ఇచ్చునది అని అర్థం. అందుకే గోదాదేవికి ‘ఆముక్తమాల్యద’ అని పేరు కలిగింది. దీనినే తమిళులు ‘శూడికొడుత్త నాచ్చియార్’ (తాల్చి ఇచ్చిన అమ్మ) అని అంటారు.

దినమున కొక కీర్తన చొప్పున దేవదేవునిపై ముప్పది కీర్తనలు రచించి స్వామి వారికి ‘పూలమాల’తో బాటు ‘కవితామాల’ను కూడా అర్పించి, నిష్ఠతో ధనుర్మాస వ్రతమాచరించి గోపికలనే ఆదర్శంగా తీసుకొని, తానున్న విల్లి పుత్తూరునే ‘రేపల్లె’గా భావించి, తానూ ఓ గోపికనై ధనుర్మాస వ్రత పరిసమాప్తితో స్వామి కృపకు పాత్రురాలై రంగనాథునే పరిణయమాడి సర్వభోగాలనుభవించి ‘ఆండాళ్’ (కాపాడునది)గా ఆరాధనీయురాలైనది.

‘తిరుప్పావై’ను వైష్ణవాలయాలలో విధిగా పారాణం చేయటం ఆచారం ఉంది. తిరుమలలో వేంకటేశ్వరుని ఆలయంలో ధనుర్మాసకాలంలో సుప్రభాతానికి మారుగా ఈ ‘తిరుప్పావై’ గానం చేయబడుటను మట్టి ఈ ‘తిరుప్పావై’ ఎంతటి ప్రస్తికెక్కిందో చెప్పవచ్చును. ధనుర్మాసంలో ప్రతిరోజు బ్రాహ్మీ ముహూర్తంలో పారాయణం చేసినవారు దైవానుగ్రహానికి పాత్రులగుట తథ్యమని శాస్త్ర వచనం. తిరుప్పావై వ్రతంలో స్వామి నివేదనకు ఒక ప్రత్యేకత ఉంది. కొన్ని కొన్ని పాశురాలకు నైవేద్యాలు ప్రత్యేకంగా చేస్తారు. పారాయణం తరువాత కట్టెపొంగలి, చక్కెర పొంగలి, దద్దోజనం, పయసాన్నం, అప్పాలు నైవేద్యంగా పెడుతారు.

విశేష పాశురం రోజు కట్టె పొంగలి తో పాటు దద్దోజనం, పులిహోర కూడా చేస్తారు. కూడారై పాశురం రోజున ప్రత్యేకముగా నెయ్యి, బాదంపప్పు, కొబ్బరిపాలు, గసగసాలు తదితర సుగంధ ద్రవ్యాలు, బియ్యం, పాలు, బెల్లం తో చేసే అక్కారవడిశెల్ అను ప్రసాదం చేయడం సంప్రదాయం.
భక్తియోగం చేత భగవంతుని సులభంగా వశపరచుకోవచ్చని, నిరూపించిన ఆరాధనా తపస్విని గోదాదేవి తన పాశురాలలో చివరి పాశురంలో సూచించిన రీతిగా ఈ ‘తిరుప్పావై’ పారాయణ చేసిన వారికి, తిరుప్పావైగాన శ్రవణం చేసిన వారికీ ఆయురారోగ్య అష్టైశ్వర ముక్తి ప్రదాయకం కాగలదనీ ఆకాంక్షిస్తూ ఆండాళ్‌ను ఇలాప్రార్ధిదాం
