Subject: Neck Pain Free Tips
Most people experience neck pain at one point. Because the neck is freely movable with most support coming from neck muscles, it is a potential area for pain. Often, it is the neck muscles that are affected with pain. When pain seems to travel to the arm, it may indicate that a nerve is involved, which requires medical attention. Sometimes, pain may be associated with injury or trauma to the neck area.
Causes of Neck Pain
Pain in the neck is usually caused by improper alignment of the neck that occurs while working in front of the computer or at the desk or even while watching TV. Correcting improper neck position while working or lying down can keep you neck pain free. In others, it may be a result of a whiplash injury.
Here are neck pain free tips that you can apply to avoid getting pain.
1. Properly position your computer monitor.
•Put monitor directly in front of you and at least 20 to 40 inches away.
•Place monitor so top line of screen is at or just below eye level.
•When monitor is on the side, make sure that your body is facing it when working.
•Working with your head and neck turned to the side for a prolonged period loads neck muscles unevenly and increases fatigue and pain.
Regardless of how good your working posture is, working in the same position for long periods still is not healthy. You should perform a little bit of stretching or stand up and walk a while and then return to your work station.
2. Avoid crouching or bending your neck for a prolonged periods. Positioning the neck on a bent position for long periods can cause straining of the muscles of the back of the neck .
3. Avoid sleeping on stomach. When sleeping on this position, the only way to breathe is to turn your head to one side and this is not good. Being in this position for a long time can cause muscle stiffness and pain.
4. Avoid stacking up on pillows while sleeping. The neck should be in a neutral position. To easily remember this, if the pillow you use makes your neck bend so much, try to lessen the pillows you use.
5. Avoid lying down while watching television or reading. Usually, the neck is bent forward and rotated to one side. This is bad for the neck and the muscles surrounding it.
