He is a very popular and eminent artiste par excellence who is known for his outstanding contribution in popularizing Indian Classical Music all over the world. He has been honored with Padma Vibhushan and many other awards.
He has established Vrindaban Gurukul in the traditional Guru-shishya style, which aims to revive the ancient lifestyle of researching and teaching Indian music and traditions. Vrindaban Gurukul, in Mumbai and Bhubaneswar, is a living heritage of Indian art music and tradition.
