Fwd: Slum Children Education at Addagutta, Malkajgiri - Need your guidance...

I like to share about the recent developments in Adagutta slum

• Many mails flocked with helping hands. Thank you for this great response.
• Till now we have taken 4 classes there..
• Main show stopper is No Proper Place/Privacy to teach as it is open place
• Children are running out.. and hiding in huts and getting distracted..
• It is becoming a bigger task to assemble and make them sit at one place.
• If there is a closed shed by using bamboos and bamboo roof sheets(tadikalu) or using canvas covers that would be a better place to teach
• Yesterday I visited the slum along with Bharath, their the hut’s caretaker Veeramma told she will provide a place for a shed
• The place shown has a big ditch /pit which need to be leveled..
• it requires hard soil(moramu) and on top Red soil.
• If possible let us visit the slum this Saturday  9am. Please come up with your ideas so that a better approach can be made.  
• Presently I’m taking weekend classes but like to extend slowly .
• Children are very active and energetic.. but sad thing is their energy is getting wasted in wrong direction like begging and abusing..

Dear All,

Recently started Slum education in Adaguta area, Malkajgiri

There are around 21 huts with around 40 children

30 children are around age group of 6-14 , whom we are targeting for education

These children stay in home, by playing in dustbins and with no basic sanitary conditions

Parents are Rag pickers.. who go out for collections at morning 4am till 12pm

There after they bifurcates the waste materials.

These children wakes up at 4am along with parents..

They beg for food during morning hours as the parents prepare food only after 12pm

Initiation is taken for week end education.

Challenge is accepted, but the problem is how to tame them..

• basic challenge we are facing is how to imbibe more manners.
• How to make them sit at least at one place when we teach..

We decided to gain their love and affection as a first step to enter into their small worlds.

We thought of Playing maximum time with them with teaching as many moral stories as possible as basic step.

We are Distributing chocolates , biscuits to attract so that we can make them sit at a place for some time.

Our intention is to increase their life style either by giving education or by playing. our Main motto is to create awareness about their present status.

Please give short story books, moral story books as a reference to stay stories.

If possible please provide your valuable time and guide us to make the slum – a clean and educated colony
