I went to a party Mom,
I remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mom,
So I drank soda instead.
I really felt proud inside, Mom,
The way you said I would.
I didn't drink and drive, Mom,
Even though the others said I should.
I know I did the right thing, Mom,
I know you are always right.
Now the party is finally ending, Mom,
As everyone is driving out of sight.
As I got into my car, Mom,
I knew I'd get home in one piece.
Because of the way you raised me,
So responsible and sweet.
I started to drive away, Mom,
But as I pulled out into the road,
The other car didn't see me, Mom,
And hit me like a load...
As I lay there on the pavement, Mom,
I hear the policeman say,
"The other guy is drunk," Mom,
And now I'm the one who will pay.
I'm lying here dying, Mom....
I wish you'd get here soon.
How could this happen to me, Mom?
My life just burst like a balloon.
There is blood all around me, Mom,
And most of it is mine.
I hear the medic say, Mom,
I'll die in a short time.
I just wanted to tell you, Mom,
I swear I didn't drink.
It was the others, Mom.
The others didn't think.
He was probably at the same party as I.
The only difference is, he drank
And I will die.
Why do people drink, Mom?
It can ruin your whole life.
I'm feeling sharp pains now.
Pains just like a knife.
The guy who hit me is walking, Mom,
And I don't think it's fair.
I'm lying here dying
And all he can do is stare.
Tell my brother not to cry, Mom.
Tell Daddy to be brave.
And when I go to heaven, Mom,
Put "GOOD BOY" on my grave.
Someone should have told him, Mom,
Not to drink and drive.
If only they had told him, Mom,
I would still be alive.
My breath is getting shorter, Mom.
I'm becoming very scared.
Please don't cry for me, Mom.
When I needed you, you were always there.
I have one last question, Mom.
Before I say good bye.
I didn't drink and drive,
So why am I the one to die?
Someone took the effort to write this poem.
people understand that drinking and driving don't mix.
"TAKE CARE ALL OF YOU..."
Each and Every ones life is precious to the some other....
A German once visited a temple under construction where he saw a sculptor making an idol of God. Suddenly he noticed a similar idol lying nearby. Surprised, he asked the sculptor, "Do you need two statues of the same idol?" "No," said the sculptor without looking up, "We need only one, but the first one got damaged at the last stage." The gentleman examined the idol and found no apparent damage. "Where is the damage?" he asked. "There is a scratch on the nose of the idol." said the sculptor, still busy with his work. "Where are you going to install the idol?"
The sculptor replied that it would be installed on a pillar twenty feet high. "If the idol is that far, who is going to know that there is a scratch on the nose?" the gentleman asked. The sculptor stopped his work, looked up at the gentleman, smiled and said, "I will know it."
The desire to excel is exclusive of the fact whether someone else appreciates it or not. "Excellence" is a drive from inside, not outside. Excellence is not for someone else to notice but for your own satisfaction and efficiency...
You guys brought a good topic for discussion.
Some NGO's are over reaching the Under privileged, meritorious students based on news articles in Press.
Some NGO's just announce the scholarship (in terms of money) for toppers in the school, they don't even worry about their financial background.
Forget about under performing students , none of the NGO's are really working towards supporting under privileged, averagely performing students.
As you are all aware, there are several valid reasons behind their average performance like brought up, illiterate parents and financial background etc.
As Prashanti rightly said, you will find majority of them in Government schools where you find demotivated teachers and discouraging environment.
With the help of little support from us, they can perform exceptionally good in their academics. I am telling this based on our experience.
Let me explain me how we are executing a model to achieve this....
We at Spandana Foundation , primarily concentrating on this issue, and trying to resolve this issue to some extent.
What we do :
We encourage our volunteers to adopt a government school at their native place
Request them identify government schools
Select around 20 meritorious but poor students from those schools
Every year we increase the number of students we support in each schools if needed to motivate the remaining students so that every students work hard try for the scholarship next year.
Support them by providing all basic needs
We don't give even a rupee also directly to students as part of this schoarship
We provide: One pair uniform, Stitching charges, Note Books, Text Books, Pen, Geometry Box, School Bag.
Exam Fee, School Fee, Transoportation are optional components and will be provided on need basis.
Give moral support to Government teachers to motivate them Monitor their performance every quarter and attend their academic needs Provide basic infrastucture to those schools to improve the environment in schools by providing Benches, Wanter tank, Class rooms, Library etc.
Oragnize competition like elocution, essay writing, debates, sports and games Health check-up and eye screening for all students In other words, we ensure the entire school that we are behind them to
support for higher studies if they perform average or more.
Spandana Foundation is supporting around 3000+ students from 160+ schools in this academic year 2009-10.

Most important aspect about this entire project is , it's completely executed from USA. Hundreds of volunteers work towards this project everyday.
I had already announced this project once in this one month back. I got ZERO response.
Please let me know if anyone in the group wants to adopt any govt. school in any corner of Andhra Pradesh. Spandana expects you to donate 30 hours of volunteer time in return back to the organization to support 14 students in a Govt. school.
